Mark Hundley, M.Ed., LPC – Statistics indicate that between 70% and 80% of people fear speaking in public; however, the most shocking statistic is that a large majority of people surveyed fear speaking in public more than they fear death! Mark Hundley has challenged both of those fears in his own life and audiences are the beneficiaries of his courage. Mark has been speaking in public for over 39 years – nineteen of which dedicated to communicating with people about death, dying and grief! Mark’s warm, sensitive communication style has made him a favorite with audiences of all ages throughout the nation. As a result of his presentations, thousands of people have found the courage to explore their own unique experiences with death and grief in dynamic, personally intimate ways. One man said, “Hearing Mark Hundley speak is like sitting at the kitchen table sharing a cup of coffee with your best friend.”
Mark has worked with children, youth and families since 1971–devoting 13 years to youth and family ministry; another 10 years to service in public education as a teacher and high school counselor; and the remaining time as a therapist, consultant and writer.
He earned his B.A. in Sociology from Hardin-Simmons University; his Master’s in Counseling from the University of North Texas; and has pursued doctoral studies in Educational Administration.
Mark’s interest in and understanding of grief springs from his experience of the death of his first wife, Christy in 1989 – an event that left him the single father of a seven year-old daughter. His walk through that process with his daughter provided opportunities to explore and develop his expertise in the field of grief reconciliation.
He is the author of Awaken to Good Mourning – a personal guide through the journey of grief. He is also a co-founder of the Journey of Hope Grief Support Center in Plano, TX, a non-profit agency that provides free group grief support to children, adolescents and their parents or adult caregivers as they learn to mourn the death or impending death of a loved one.
He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and conducts a private counseling practice in McKinney, TX, where he lives with his wife Vanessa. They have three grown children together and enjoy the company of three grandsons.
